Alison Pilling moved to Corfu after Evolve 2021 changed her life and inspired her to buy Mandala House. Travel

Travel To Corfu

We recommend that you book your flights as early as possible. Corfu International Airport (CFU) is near Corfu town.

You will find DIRECT RETURN flights from the UK airports in June including London airports, Manchester, Birmingham, Exeter, Bristol, Edinburgh in Scotland or Dublin in the Irish Republic.

Flight aggregators that scan all airlines e.g. skyscanner.net, kayak.com, expedia.com will provide you with a range of price options.

Travel To Arillas

Arillas is approximately one hour drive from Corfu International Airport or Corfu Town.

Taxi or Shuttle service are best booked in advance. You may be able to arrange shared transport with other group participants. Car hire is available on and adjacent to the airport. Book in advance to get competitive prices. Car hire aggregators will show you a range of options across car hire companies among others holidayautos.com, carjet.com, travelsupermarket.com – be aware that since BREXIT many car hire companies charge an insurance premium if you do not present an International Driving Licence. Please check to avoid unexpected and unavoidable charges.

Public bus is an option if you want a low-cost environmentally friendly way to travel to Arillas. Green Buses the public bus company, located walking distance from the airport terminal, offers services Monday – Friday To Arillas, though service is limited.

Getting Around Arillas

The beach, restaurants, and the town of Arillas are all accessible on foot. The venue for Evolve is approximately 10-30 minutes walk from most accommodation around Arillas.

Scooters, quad bikes, bicycles and e-bikes are all available for hire if you would like more freedom (and can be delivered to your accommodation). NOTE: Roads can be slippery so take care if using a scooter.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is intended to protect you in the event of unforeseen circumstances, including: medical emergencies; travel cancellations or delays; lost or damaged baggage; theft or loss of items. In addition, it will ensure that the Evolve Team can best support you in the unlikely event of a mishap during the Gathering.

For UK residents, insurance for a 7-day trip is available for as little as £9. See, for example, www.comparethemarket.com for a selection of options. If your country of residence is the UK or in the European Union, we recommend that you carry an up to date GHIC/EHIC card for medical coverage.

Accommodation

Arillas is a low-key resort town with a wide range of accommodation options, ranging from beachfront hotel rooms to modest studios and apartments and a few luxury villas.

There are many small and family-run options in this small town. The list below is not complete and cannot be considered as a list of recommendations.

If you have a vehicle and want to be a little further away there are options in the villages of Agios Giorgios, Agios Stefanos, Afionas and Magoulades. Other options include, but not limited to, online sites such as airbnb, booking.com and agoda.com

Venue

Facilities

Cushions, yoga mats, and seating are available. Modern toilet facilities are on site, drinking water is available on tap. Please bring your own reusable water bottle.

Getting Around

It can be very pleasant to attune to a slower pace and amble about on foot, appreciating the sights, sounds, and fragrances of the Greek countryside. This is a holiday after all! If you prefer a vehicle, your options are a car, scooter, 4-wheeler, or bicycle (push or electric).

A car is not strictly necessary and can be impractical and expensive unless you are staying or travelling further afield of Arillas. There are car rental options at the airport or locally. See info above under “Travel to Arillas” and “Getting Around Arillas.

If you want to embrace island life, a scooter, quad (AWD) or bicycle offer more intrepid and open-air options at lower cost and greater convenience than a car. A scooter will cost around €10 per day. For anything under 50cc, you only need a valid driver’s license. See Planning “Getting Around Arillas”

Children

Anyone over 18 is welcome to register and attend the Evolve The Journey workshop. The workshop is not open to anyone under 18 years. There is no provision for childcare at the venue or as part of the Evolve The Gathering offering.

Program

The Beginning

Ticket holders will need to register on Sunday June 16th IN ADVANCE of our Opening Ceremony and complimentary Welcome Meal on Sunday evening. You will receive details of the Venue and Registration location in advance. We recommend you plan to arrive in Corfu no later than Saturday 15th June.

Please bring an electronic/paper copy of your ticket and a proof of identity to Registration. You will receive a wristband that you will need to display on request all times during the gathering.

IMPORTANT: Evolve The Journey workshop begins with our Opening Ceremony on Sunday 16th, there is NO GUARANTEE that you can attend the Evolve The Journey workshop if you fail to register in advance, though you can avail of daily breakfast and the other events during the week.

The Ending

We will complete our final session by 2pm on Saturday 22 June 2024. We will plan a celebration (dinner or otherwise) to complete and close our time together.

You may wish to extend your stay to allow for integration of Evolve The Journey, as well as to enjoy the local area, community activities or Artisan & Holistic Offers.

Contributing

As an Evolve The Journey ticket holder, you may offer a contribution to the program, for example an awareness practice, a hosted discussion or an entertainment offering. You will be sent further information on how to propose a contribution, on purchase of your ticket.

We also have a number of RESIDENT positions for ticket holders to foster creativity and champion the spirit of Evolve including, but are not limited to, Writer, Artist, Videographer/Photographer. Submit a short proposal and bio by email to hello@evolvethejourney.com.

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend that you secure adequate Travel Insurance to protect you against unforseen circumstances including cancellations/delays to travel, lost or stolen items and health emergencies.

Prior to arrival , you will be required to share your travel insurance details with the Evolve Team OR sign a waiver acknowleding all personal liablity for not having travel insurance.

If your country of residence is the UK or Europe we recommend you apply for a GHIC or EHIC card for medical cover.

Packing

What to pack

Corfu in the summer is glorious! Nonetheless, it is an island and weather can change. Temperatures are generally warm and very pleasant, but it can be breezy and a little humid or damp, giving a feeling of a light chill. In June is generally dry but rain is possible. Accordingly, consider packing:
*Comfortable warm-weather clothes
*Beach wear
*Light sandals or flip-flops
*Shoes for walking (this is a walker’s paradise)
*Light jacket for rain (or umbrella to double as a parasol)
*Light jacket, sweatshirt, jumper or wrap for evenings
*Casual dress-up for an evening or two (Arillas is a very relaxed resort area)
*A torch (or mobile phone light) can be useful for walking at night

Mosquito repellent is important as you’ll spend lots of time outdoors. Malaria is NOT an issue but bites itch! Bring whatever repellent and salve suits your needs. If you forget, there are lots of options on sale locally (including bio and organic).”

An element of our ethos at Evolve is to tread more lightly on this earth. In terms of what you pack travelling hand baggage is one recommendation, we also suggest bringing a cloth bag for groceries and (or buying when you arrive) organic/bio degradable shower gel/hair shampoo/condition as the drainage systems here tend to be soaraway i.e. straight into the ground and water table.

We advise you drink lots in the summer heat. To reduce single use plastic consider bringing your own bottle, buying one here (Kostas Bio Market has a selection) or sourcing a glass bottle here in one of the supermarkets.

Please take care of your valuables in your accommodation, please do not bring valuables to the venue.
